Who Are Evolution Gaming?
Evolution claims their mission is to be the biggest provider of online casino content worldwide. Judging by our supplier data for slots, we think they are the largest provider of slots content and definitely the largest supplier of Live Games content. They started in 2006 with the main studio in Riga producing content such as Live Roulette and Live Blackjack, followed by studios in Malta in 2014. Evolution Gaming listed on the Stockholm stock exchange in 2015. They continued to launch more studios in Romania, Belgium, Georgia. More recently studios were launched in three US states, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Michigan. Evolution Gaming continue to produce more Live Games content but have also diversified into online casino slot games by acquiring some of the world’s biggest game studios.
Who do Evolution Gaming Own?
Evolution Gaming are the market leader in Live Casino games. The majority of their content, from Live Table games such as Live Blackjack to sophisticated multi player game shows such as Crazy Time, was created in-house by Evolution gaming. However, in 2018 Evolution acquired Ezugi Gaming, a Live Casino supplier specialising in the Asian market but also active in the US. This gave Evolution an increased presence in New Jersey as well as more Live Game studios.
At that time Evolution Gaming only offered Live Gaming content, they didn’t own any ‘RNG’ content, more commonly known as slots. RNG stands for Random Number Generator, essentially games whose outcome is based on computer algorithms to guarantee a Return To Player % (RTP). This ensure the games are fair and meet regulatory standards in markets. The largest slot provider in terms of content presence was Swedish company, Netent. Evolution Gaming acquired Netent in June 2020, immediately becoming one of the largest online slot game providers in the world. Prior to their acquisition Netent had acquired Red Tiger Gaming in September 2019. This acquisition gave Evolution a leading presence not just in Live Casino but also in the online slots segment. Both companies had a leading presence in regulated markets such as Sweden and the United Kingdom, but also the Asian market.
On the 1st July 2021 Evolution acquired Megaways slot studio Big Time Gaming. The Australian studio developed the Megaways game mechanic on titles such as Bonanza, which become massively popular in online casinos. After a couple of years of exclusively producing their own Megaways games, Big Time Gaming started to licence the Megaways mechanic to other game studios. If you look at our top 100 slots page, you will see how popular Megaways games are.
Within 2 years Evolution gaming transformed from being the top Live Games supplier to the largest online slots company by their two acquisitions. They now have three of the biggest brands in Netent, Red Tiger and Big Time Gaming as well as licencing revenue from Megaways games. Each time a rival casino supplier, such as Pragmatic Play, launch their own Megaways title Evolution Gaming will receive some of the revenue through the licence.
How We Get The Data
To produce the data for Crazy Time Tracker we track multiple sites in several countries. We look at the number of players shown in the lobby several times an hour. For the Crazy Time Tracker we take the maximum reading in the hour for the chart. We believe that the lobby numbers are for the whole Evolution network. When we look at at the player numbers in different sites and regions the lobby numbers are indetical.
